In Tibetan Buddhism it is believed that the prayer wheels are devices for spreading spiritual blessing and well being. It contains the mantra of avalokitheswara (the compassion Buddha) and it is believed that one full spin of the wheel brings equal benefits to the recitation of a mantra. It is made up of rolls of thin paper, which are imprinted with many copies of the mantra in ancient Indian or Tibetan script. These scripts are wound around an axle in a protective container, and spun around. On the outside, it is engraved with Tibetan mantra. It stands at a height of 5".
